FAU ElasmoLab Tracker ("the App") is a field data collection tool designed for marine wildlife research. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
The App accesses your device's GPS to record latitude and longitude at the time of each observation. It also stores the following data that you enter manually:
- Wildlife observation notes (species, count, behavior, or other user-defined text)
- Timestamps associated with each observation
- Session elapsed time from the built-in stopwatch
The App does not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifying information.
2. How Your Data Is Used
All data collected by the App is used solely to populate the CSV export file that you generate at the end of a session. This file is saved to your device and shared only when you explicitly choose to share it (e.g., via AirDrop, email, or Files).
No data is transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party by the App.
3. Data Storage
All observation data is stored locally on your device for the duration of the active session. The App does not retain data between sessions beyond the exported CSV file you choose to save. No data is backed up to iCloud or any external service by the App.
4. Location Data
Location access is required for the App's core function: logging GPS coordinates alongside wildlife observations. Location data is used only within the App and is included in your exported CSV file. The App requests location access only while in use ("While Using the App") and never requests background location access.
5. Third-Party Services
The App does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising networks, crash reporting services, or social media SDKs. No data is shared with or sold to any third party.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can address it.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
